Remembrances

I wanted to let you know that Michael Foft passed away on Friday, August 16, 2024. He was 82.

I first met Michael (and Bill McCrory) in the 1980's when they visited, and I was living and square dancing in San Francisco. When I was preparing to move to Sacramento in 1990, they welcomed me into their home. We shared many cocktails together over the years.

Michael had been in a nursing home situation for nearly two years. I visited him infrequently along with several others. He was alert and talkative until the last six months or so. The last few times I went to visit, he mostly was asleep but always had a big smile when he awoke and recognized me.

There will a gathering in his honor on Sunday, Sept 22, at 1 pm.
--James Ozanich

Sorry to hear the last 6 months weren’t the best but, Michael left a mark on all who knew him. Another reminder to keep enjoying every year we have and everyone we love. Yellowrocks.
--Mike Sellers & Jim Pellmann

It is a sad day for square dancers, leathermen and drinkers everywhere. Tony and I enjoyed seeing Bill and Michael at all the conventions and chatting and drinking with them. I'm sure they will be remembered well by many whose lives they touched. Take care and be well. Love & Light.

Michael and Bill were such special men.
--Robin Alpinglow

So sorry to hear this news. Michael and Bill were paragons of the square dance community. They were fun, loved the activity, and made many friends thru square dancing and their other commitments. It was a privilege to know them.
--Gary Dougan

I do remember square dancing with Michael, and it was always fun being in a square that he was in. Rest in peace Michael!
--Tim White

They loved dancing and were proud of their attendance record hanging on their chests.
--Sonya Cox

Thanks for the notice. So sad.
--Harlan Kerr

So sad we had a lot of fun at conventions and dancing back in the 90s and early 2000. Thank you so much if anything is planned let us know.
--Marie Mohr & Kathy Healy

I have often thought of Bill & Michael and the pool parties, board meetings, etc., at their house and how much fun we all had. Lost touch with the CCS people when we moved up to Lincoln, CA (sigh). But life is like that.

End of an era and a great twosome.
