From the Program Book of the 8th IAGSDC Convention, held in Miami, FL in 1991:

Carnival Twirlers was started by caller Jill Marci in 1988. Jill wanted to offer the community a chance to dance to one of their own. Jill also emphasized APD right from the beginning of Basic and continues APD right up through Challenge. With the help of her partner Brenda Booth and friend Greg Huff, these three manned a booth at San Jose's Gay Pride Celebration and distributed thousands of flyers to the community and thus Carnival Twirlers was born!
