Background
Sally Hurst was Allan Hurst’s mother, and Randy Hensley’s mother-in-law.
After her husband Bill died in 2001, she lived alone in Chicago until 2010.
Allan was visiting her when 9/11 occurred, and he was stuck in Chicago for several weeks. That night (9/11/2001) was a Chi-Town Squares introduction to square dancing. Tired of watching the news on TV, Allan took Sally to Chi-Town’s intro night, where she became part of the new Basic/Mainstream/Plus class, and danced with the club for several years.
She began developing dementia a few years later, and stopped dancing with the club, though she continued to support the club by renewing her membership faithfully, and sending treats such as her famous beef brisket to Chi-Town potlucks and dances.
