Biography

Ron began square dancing in 1961. Bitten by the bug to become a caller, he called his first singing call in 1962. Five years later he had the opportunity to teach his first square dance class. Ron was the first caller in southeastern Virginia Ron Nelson to teach Advanced dancing.

In 1980 Ron relocated to Texas, where he met and married his wife Barbara. While living in Texas, Ron became club caller for clubs in three different states (Texas, Arkansas, and Louisiana). Ron has recorded singing calls for Red Boot Records and Bogan Records.

In 1085 Ron began attending Grossmont College in San Diego to study video production. This led to his producing and directing LET'S SQUARE DANCE! a television show shown on eight cable systems in southern California from 1988 to 1990. Since living in San Diego, Ron has called for the Swinging Stars, the DBDs, the Hashmasters, the Alpine Squares, the Vagabonds, and the Valley Twirlers. For ten years Ron served as the club caller and instructor for Finest City Squares.[1]
