Obituary

Ronald Ray Hayworth
Ray was born October 17, 1959, on North Padre Island beach at Corpus Christi, Texas. He closed his eyes a final time at his home in Austin, Texas on Saturday, August 29, 2020. Ray was the fifth child of O.B. and Allene Hayworth. He was predeceased by his parents, sisters Jenette and Karen, brothers Clayton and Donald.

Ray is survived by his partner of 29 years Rick Davis, and a host of nieces, nephews, and their families; among them his little "sister" Paula Robinson, niece Julie Call and nephew P.J. Flanders.

A graduate of Roosevelt High School (1978) in San Antonio, where Ray spent his childhood days, he attended Texas A&M University ('79-'81) on a ROTC scholarship. He continued his education at Texas Tech and Texas State Universities. After briefly owning a pet and grooming store, Ray spent his life in Austin helping others in home remolding, repair, and maintenance. He was especially skilled and known for his extraordinary talents in tile work. It appeared Ray could build, repair, or fix anything. Ray had an exceptional life force that drew in a legion of beloved friends over many years. Ray loved dogs, and he and Rick shared many exceptional pups. Ray also was passionate about his mother and family, dear friends, the Bad Boys, and his loyal Aggie buddies.

While undergoing chemotherapy, Ray challenged himself to learn Mainstream level Square Dance at the Lone Star Lambdas in Austin. Under the direction of Caller Dan Clairmont, Ray successfully completed classes and was granted his badge to dance at Shoot the Lone Star on February 28, 2020. Before being able to attend his Graduation Dance, Covid Isolation Protocols hit and cancelled the ceremony. The Lambdas were heartbroken when they learned of Ray’s passing, but were very proud to have known such a courageous dancer. His cremains were scattered according to Ray's wishes - some at the shore of Lake Travis' Hippie Hollow and the rest on the beach at North Padre Island where he began life's journey.

Ray's Memorial Service was held 2:00PM on Saturday, August 28, 2021, at Harrell Funeral Home, 4435 Frontier Trail, Austin, TX.[1]
