Paul Clinton Cahill passed peacefully at his San Francisco home on May 16, 2016 at the age of 75, a victim of cancer Paul was born in Dearborn, Michigan on April 28, 1941 to Michael and Catherine Cahill. The family moved to Eureka in 1948. Paul attended St. Bernard's Elementary and graduated from St. Bernard's High School in 1959. He graduated from St. Mary's College in Moraga in 1963 and from Boalt Law, University of California, Berkeley in 1966. Paul served in the U.S. Army in Korea. He began practicing law in Oakland, worked for the Public Utilities Commission and the Attorney General's office in California, and at the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy in Washington, DC. Paul and his life partner of 44 years, Ed Conley, loved traveling the world and sailing in the San Francisco Bay. Paul was a passionate student of Ancient Greece and a gifted storyteller who spent hours regaling his nieces and nephews with tales from Greek mythology. In addition to Ed, Paul is survived by his siblings and in-laws Dennis and Pam Cahill of Arcata, Cathleen and Ron Maher of Eureka, and Sally and Peter Tannenbaum of Santa Barbara; nephews Mike Maher, Matt Maher, Kevin Cahill, Paul Tannenbaum, and David Tannenbaum; nieces Cathleen Cahill, Megan Maher Belcastro, Christine Cahill Disbrow, Maureen Maher Sundberg, and Katie Tannenbaum. Paul was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Michael and Catherine Cahill. A private family memorial for Paul will be held in July.
