Obituary

Long-time square dancer Jim Overton “Cowboy” passed away on April 7, 2024, at the age of 79½ (to the day).  Jim was born (10/7/1944) and grew up in the San Luis Obispo area and started square dancing at a young age with his mother as his partner. It was at a dance in San Luis Obispo where he met his life partner Pat O’Toole, and this year marked their 35th year of living and dancing together. They later moved to the Sacramento area and danced with various clubs including the Galt Diamond Dancers, Capital City Squares, Sierra Squares, and Whirl-A-Ways. They attended many festivals throughout California.  Jim loved mud racing and drag racing and all things mechanical.  He was always available to help any friend with a car, truck, or RV problem.  Together, Jim and Pat loved traveling the world to many scuba diving destinations including the Red Sea, Egypt, Fiji, Australia, the Blue Holes, and yearly trips to Hawaii. A private memorial was held for Jim by his Race Track friends with his family in attendance.  Jim is survived by Pat, three daughters, and four grandchildren.  Please keep Pat and family in your thoughts and prayers.
