Van Horrocks
Cathedral City - Van (Devan) Horrocks, 87, of Cathedral City, California, passed away on May 18th, 2019, after an automobile accident. Van was born on November 12, 1931, in Winona, West Virginia - one of 13 children born to John William and Jessee Tincher Horrocks. He is survived by his spouse Larry Freitas, of Cathedral City; sister Nancy Horrocks Fannin of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; sister-in-law Evelyn H Horrocks of Parma, Ohio; and by numerous nieces and nephews and their families.

After training in accounting in Washington DC, Van began a diverse business career. He owned The Four Corners restaurant in Star Tannery, Virginia. He held accounting positions in New Jersey, Florida, and Los Angeles. Finally, he served as a senior representative in the Department of Finance, City of Pasadena.

In his personal life, Van received many awards and citations, including one for participating in the Rose Bowl Parade. He excelled at tennis, competing in the Gay Olympics (Australia) where he earned the silver medal. Van treasured spending time with his many friends.

A private burial service was held by Van's friends at Forest Lawn. A portion of his remains have been returned to his beloved homeland in West Virginia.[1]
