Kurt started square dancing with the Times Squares in 1991, dancing the "Girl" part, but quickly became bi-dansual. In 1995, he got the calling bug and attended GCA caller schools for the next 4 years, calling guest tips for Times Squares, Independence Squares, and other clubs around the New York metropolitan area. In 1997, Kurt joined Pat Push as a club caller for the fledgeling New Jersey club, the Garden St8s. After starting a new business with David Roberts in 1999 (CerTek Software Designs, inc., makers of Artisan Point of Sale Software for small businesses) and the folding of Garden St8s in 2000, Kurt took a hiatus from calling-and all but local square dance activities-until 2005.

After David moved the business to Florida in 2003 (with Kurt working remotely), Kurt finally returned to IAGSDC Conventions with the 2005 Star Thru The Silicon Galaxy. Remembering how much he loved Silicon Valley from business trips in "the UNIX days" (1990s), Kurt immediately moved to Sunnyvale, California and joined the El Camino Reelers. With encouragement from his new club, Kurt took a refresher GCA caller school in 2006, and has been calling regularly ever since.

Kurt is now a club caller at El Camino Reelers, Oaktown 8s, Outlaws (in San Jose), Elks N Does (Alameda), and Advanced Squares (Fremont), and a frequent guest caller at many other clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area, including Foggy City Dancers, Diablo Dancers, and Interlocked Squares. He calls, and teaches, beginners through C1.

Since 2016, Kurt has been the President of the Santa Clara Valley Callers Association (SCVCA), and a frequent member of the SCVSDA Top Ten Callers.
