Obituary

LAMBERT, CLARENCE ROY, JR., age 62 of Birmingham, died at his home on Saturday, July 22, following a lengthy illness. Roy was born to Clarence Roy Lambert and Ruby Lee Clark on November 11, 1937 in Thomasville, Georgia. He spent his childhood in Winter Park, Florida, where he graduated from high school in 1955. Roy served in the US Army and was stationed at Fort Sam Houston. After living several years in Texas, he moved to several other places, then moved to Birmingham in 1978.

Roy received his nursing degree from Jefferson State Jr. College and worked as an RN for Baptist Medical Center - Montclair. He retired with 20 years service in 1995. Roy lived in the Crestwood neighborhood for the last 16 years, where he was active in the neighborhood association and served as Secretary for six years. He was also a member of Magic City Diamonds Square Dance Club. Roy was an avid gardener and enjoyed designing, planting, and sharing his garden after retirement.

Roy was a member of the Baptist Church of the Covenant and was active with INTEGRITY, an Episcopal-based fellowship. He also participated in several HeartSong retreats for persons living with HIV/AIDS. Roy volunteered for Birmingham AIDS Outreach and served on the Jefferson County HIV Prevention Community Planning Group.

Predeceased by his parents, Roy is survived by his companion, Gary C. Hamm, Birmingham; his son, Dwayne J. Wilson (Mary) of Del Rio, TX; daughter, DeLorne Gay Epting and grandsons, Blake and Sawyer Epting of Bryan, TX; brothers, James Cheever Lambert (Diane) of Bruce, FL; William Clark Lambert (Diane) of Lizella, GA; numerous nieces and nephews; a host of friends; and his beloved "Pearlie Mae".

Pallbearers will be Misty Williams, Chuck Rogers, Larry Fitzgerald, Ron Garza, Becky Allen-Burge, Lawrence Hughey, Javin Bowlin and Wade Woodward. Honorary pallbearers will be the BCOC AIDS Care Team.

Family and friends will receive visitors Monday, July 24 from 5 until 8:00 p.m. at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Trussville. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am.m. on Tuesday, July 24, at Baptist Church of the Covenant, Re. Malcolm Marler officiating. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m. in Thomasville, GA, at Laurel Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Church of the Covenant Building Fund, 2117 University Blvd., Birmingham, Al 35232 or to the Billy R. Cox Foundation/Pet Fund, P.O. Box 530306, Birmingham, AL 35323 to be forwarded to the Pearlie Mae Lambert Foundation upon its charter. Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home, Trussville (322-0544) directing.[1]
