Obituary

HERNANDEZ, Rita
Passed away unexpectedly at home on November 26, 2012. Born on October 18, 1950, in Sacramento, CA. Preceded in death by her mother Julia Pacheco and sister Tencha Pacheco. She is survived by her sister Josephine Sykes and her husband Martin, brother Jorge Pacheco, sister Nora Morales, niece Viv Monteiro and nephews Marc Young and Marcos Pacheco. She was a life long resident of Sacramento, graduated from CK McClatchy High School and received her BA and Masters in Social Science from CSUS. She worked in her chosen field of study for most of her life and was particularly concerned with helping the abused and homeless women's community. She truly enjoyed music of all kinds and had a beautiful singing voice, participating in numerous choirs over the years. She loved to travel and always had a house filled with beloved pets. As an avid fan of the WNBA Monarchs, she held season tickets. She will be sadly missed but fondly remembered by her family and close friends who knew her well. Burial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at St. Mary's Cemetery, 6700 21st Avenue, Sacramento at 1pm.[1]

Remembrances

Rita and I worked together at St. John's Shelter for Women and Children. We became fast friends and spent time together even after we had both left St. John's. Rita was full of love and life and compassion for others. She had a generous nature and a beautiful spirit, and touched soooo many people around her. Lovely Rita, I missed the chance to say to goodbye to you, but please know that you still live in my heart and always will. I can still see your smile and hear your laugh, and I will cherish your memories always. I love you.

Rita, your light shone so brightly-- I loved your dancing spirit and you knew all the words to all the songs--- keep singing and dancing and shining in the great beyond, my friend. Peace.

Hello, My Friend. I will truly miss you. It was fun dancing with you and going to the Monarch's games. I will miss your stories also. Rest in Peace my Friend. Godspeed.

Rita possessed a marvelous talent for quickly putting others around her at ease. Although my normal state at social events is to be internally anxious, in short order, Rita would have me laughing at myself, her, or better still, both of us. Whenever the opportunity presented itself, Rita enjoyed dancing and did not hesitate to make the most of a chance to forget all of her cares and get lost in the music. Rita was also a first rate hugger. Like many others, I will miss you friend. You were a genuine, compassionate soul. Bless you,

Did you know she was at one time a taxi driver? It was interesting driving with her. She knew all of the short cuts. She also had a Masters Degree in Counseling. Rita loved to dance and she loved Star Trek more - she even had a Star Trek Uniform. We went out to eat a lot. She knew where all of the good meat and potatoes places were.

Rita was an awesome friend and I truly miss her. Godspeed, my friend.
