Obituary
Joel passed peacefully from this life on the morning of Nov. 11. Joel was employed by the San Francisco Department of Parks and Recreation until he retired due to declining health. Joel was a member of Foggy City Dancers. Joel had a life-long love of music, and he transformed this love of music into the Junior Disc Jockey Program to bring music to disadvantaged youngsters throughout the city of San Francisco.
Joel is survived by his parents, Joseph and Margaret Irvine of San Francisco; his sisters, Joslyn Mats of Hayward, Janice Hunter of Richmond and Jeryl Irvine of San Francisco; his godfather, Kirk Conragan; his godmother, Wilma Bullard; a grandfather; a niece; a nephew; a brother-in-law; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Joel will be greatly missed by his family and friends in San Francisco, the greater Bay Area, Seattle, Denver, Houston and Boston.
A memorial service was held on Nov. 16. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Joel's name to the AIDS Emergency Fund, San Francisco.[1]
