Obituary

James Wimmer, art co;lector, private poet, and AIDS activist, died peacefully at home at age 36. Born in New York City August 23, 1957, Mr. Wimmer attended Hunter College where he majored in art history. He was assistant curator of an exhibit entitled "Devotional Inspirations" in 1983 in the East Village. Hist collection of contemporary New YOrk and San Francisco artists was small but strong.

Jimmy settled in San Francisco in 1984 and earned a living as a hair stylist. He loved the city and its lifestyle and applied his creative energy to his new life. After joining the Foggy City Dancers and becoming a member of their performance team, he took great pride in being the team's costumer and designer as well as a dancer, for which he received the team's award for his costuming at the 1989 New York International Square Dance Convention.

Jimmy's ten-year fight with AIDS took on many aspects, from trying to humanize the disease by helping in "Faces With AIDS," and helping to council the many friends who passed before him. His sharp wit and camp helped us all keep fighting.

Jimmy is survived by his brothers Bobby and Richie and sisters Rosemary and Donna, all of New York, and friends on both coasts. Goodbye old friend, rest well. You will be missed.[2]
