Jim died of AIDS four days after his 54th birthday at Garden Sullivan Hospital. he struggled for seven years with the disease that eventually consumed his body and his mind, but not his heart. Beloved partner of Rev. Peter Hayn of Daly City, he is also survived by his mother, Geraldine; brother, Ron; sister-in-law Paulette; and many friends around the world. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Robert, and his lover, Gary Way of Seattle, as well as numerous friends.

A Vietnam veteran, Jim was a retired employee of the Canadian government. He was also an active square dancer in the early days of Foggy City Squares and Western Star Dancers, and was proud when the first International Lesbian and Gay Convention was held in his beloved Seattle.
