Obituary
Jeanette Helen Going, 89, passed away peacefully at her home in Wheat Ridge, Colorado on November 5, 2022. She was born on July 8, 1933, to John and Helen Bowers in Glen, New York. Jeanette was married to Bernard Going Jr., and they raised two children, Deborah (Deb) and Bernard III (Bud), in Amsterdam, New York. The family enjoyed alpine skiing, snowmobiling, and spending summers at camp on the Great Sacandaga Lake.
When her children were young, Jeanette was employed by the New York Telephone Company as an operator. Remember when you needed to speak with an operator in order to place a long-distance call? Later, she and her husband owned and operated the Windsor Motel located in Amsterdam, New York. The swimming pool had underwater music and was a hot spot for the locals as well as the guests. Horse racing in Saratoga Springs, New York brought many people from afar.
After a divorce, Jeanette was employed by the Culinary Arts Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. It was great fun to enjoy the food of the practicing chefs! She loved it there, but grandchildren brought her to Colorado. Here she worked as a bookkeeper and eventually found her niche in the funeral industry with Runyan-Stevenson, assisting many families through difficult times. She retired in February 2013.
Jeanette was always an active member of her community and was involved in several organizations including the Century Club of Amsterdam, New York, Wish of a Lifetime in Denver, Colorado, and many square dance clubs within the Denver Metro area which included Rocky Tops and Rocky Mountain Rainbeaus. Besides spending time with her family and attending the theater, dancing was her true love. She traveled to many state square dance conventions and even danced at Coors Field during Rockies’ games.
Any family affair, she was there with bells on! She cheered for her Broncos, the Avalanche, and was her grandson’s hockey teams’ biggest fan. Sometimes she was the only one in the stands! She was the team's grandma.
Jeanette is survived by her daughter, Deb (Michael) McGarvey of Littleton, Colorado, her son, Bud, of Allentown, Pennsylvania, her grandchildren, Matthew (Shanell), Ellen, Marla (Ethan), Caitlin, Caroline (Travis), Claire, and great grandchildren Dakota, Adalyn, and Forrest.
Advantage Runyan-Stevenson Funeral Home at 6425 W. Alameda Avenue in Lakewood, CO will host her Celebration of Life and Prayer Service on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at 10:00 am followed by a procession to Littleton Cemetery.
Many thanks to all her friends and family who have sent heartfelt prayers during this difficult time. Jeanette will be greatly missed.[1]
