Dedication
JEAN EFFRON, Albuquerque, New Mexico, is a repeat performer with her home club, The Wilde Bunch. She is so respected by her fellow dancers that she was asked to hold a second term as president. When I first met Jean in March, 1987, at the Rainbeaus' fly-in, she was a new dancer. I have never taken the time to talk at length with Jean, but I began listening to her after reading a memorial tribute she had written for a Wilde Buncher. It was brief, but eloquent, and showed the loving toll it had taken to write about her feelings.
Jean is sought out by her members for advice, mediation, and compassion. You will always hear the Wilde Bunch members talking about Jean's abilities to diffuse conflict. During this past year, the club had the privilege of having a foreign university student as a square dance class and club member. In several conversations I had with the Danish student, he commented many times about Jean's tremendous human relations talents. Certainly, if Jean's abilities can cut through language and cultural barriers by example, you would have to believe the compliments given to her by those whom she serves year after year. If an element of one's character is judged by the company one keeps, I am honored to have been in the presence of Jean Effron.[1]
