Obituary

Francis "Jason" Fontaine
Formerly of Shelburne Falls, Mass. died July 24, 2010 after a gallant year-long battle with diabetes and an ischemic stroke. Having just reached his 80th birthday this month with a fanfare of friends by his side. Jason's remains were flown to Shelburne Falls for a Christian burial at Arms Cemetery in the family plot after a mass at St. Joseph's Church. Jason was preceded in death by his mother Marion in 1982, father Louis in 1974, brother William in 1991 and a best friend this past June, Tim Wood. He is survived by his loving sister Jeanne in Las Vegas, brother Jack in Florida, niece Lisa in Virginia, nephew Richard in Reno and a great nephew Alex in Virginia, etc., etc., etc. Jason started out as a stenographic secretary in 1959 with IBM and accomplished numerous administrative positions until his retirement in 1990. After his transfer to San Francisco in 1980 from Hartford, Conn. He became involved in a number of community organizations: The Western Star Square Dancers in 1986, The Godfather Fund at S.F. General, The Golden Gate Guards October 1988, served a year on the S.F. Grand Jury.

In 1990 he started the annual Cherry Blossom Social with the GGG earning the Title "Master of All Cherry Blossoms" in 2005. Jason enjoyed working registration and room bookings at all the GGG annual motorcycle runs and attended other club runs/campouts annually. Jason was a staunch Republican and a member of the Notre Dame Des Victoires Church on Bush Street for many years. Here are a few other organizations he participated in, The Inter-Club Fund of S.F.; Forum of S.F.; The Imperial Court and held a title "Prince of Lovno" with The Ducal Council of S.F. In 1996 he received the only plaque ever presented by the late Mr. Marcus for "Corresponding Secretary of the Year" for his outstanding work in communication as the Guards secretary. Jason received dozens of certificates and plaques of appreciation from every organization he had involvement with for his exemplary performance and contributions. Jason will be remembered for his kindness toward everyone and his generosity, support at all community functions and fundraisers and just being a real proper gentleman. Plans are in the works for a celebrations of life — stay tuned. Everyone sing now — "Shall We Gather at The River" — and toast your next martini to Jason. — Amen[2]
