Hugh E. Hayes Jr., 35, of Stockton died of natural causes Monday at home.

A native of Stockton, Mr. Hayes graduated from Stagg High School and San Joaquin Delta Community College and later attended San Francisco State. He worked in the banking industry for 10 years. He enjoyed cooking and was in the process of changing careers to the food-service industry. He was enrolled in cooking classes at Delta College, where he was active in the Student Chef Restaurant. He was in the vestry at St. John's Episcopal Church in Stockton and was a member of the Stockton Corral of westerners and the Capital City Squares. He also was on the board of the San Francisco symphony.

Survivors include his parents, Hugh and Maryanne Hayes of Stockton; two sisters, Anne Hayes Rodriguez and Suzanne Hayes Soares, both of Stockton; a grandmother, Daphne E. Hayes of Stockton; two nieces; and one nephew.

Interment will be private. Roche's Mortuary is in charge of the arrangements, Memorials may be made to the San Joaquin AIDS Foundation, 4410 N. Pershing ave., Suite C-6, Stockton, CA 95207.[1]

Capital City Squares dancer Hugh Hayes died in January at his home in Stockton at the age of 35. He was a member of the Stockton Corral of Westerners and served on the board of the San Francisco Symphony.

A native of Stockton, Hugh attended San Joaquin Delta College and San Francisco State. He was a vestry at St. John's Episcopal Church in Stockton and worked for 10 years in the banking industry. His great love for food, however, had recently inspired him to switch careers, and he was taking courses to be a chef at the time he became ill.
