Mr. Barton was born Oct. 26, 1956, in Centralia, Wash. He died May 27, 1994, of causes related to AIDS. He was 37.
He graduated from W.F. West High School in Chehalis, Wash., in 1975. He attended Centralia College where he was active in theater. He moved to Portland in 1978 and went to work in accounting department at The Oregonian. He became the company's head cashier in 1979 and stayed in that position until he was no longer able to work.
Mr. Barton was a member of the Northwest Theatre of the Deaf and helped to organize deaf interpretive services for the Cascade AIDS Project. He belonged to the Rose Town Ramblers square dancers.
He is survived by his parents, Wesley and Virginia Lee Barton of Chehalis and his brother, John W. of San Francisco.
Disposition was by cremation.
