Obituary

Eugene Terry Gallardo
(Geno)
August 27, 1965 — July 19, 2000
Geno passed away at his home in San Pablo. At the time of his death from AIDS he was surrounded by the loving care of his mother, Veronica Gallardo, who held him in her arms as he passed on after a long struggle with KS in his lungs. Providing love and support were his three brothers, Richard, NIck abd Joseph, his grandmother Clara Marinuex, and his aunt Lorraine Martinez, among other close friends, family and others. Geno's gay family wishes to acknowledge their appreciation and love for Geno's mom for standing by him and being there to care for him.

Geno was the Secretary of Western Star Dancers, a gay and lesbian square dance club that he loved and cherished. The gay and lesbian community became his second family the last few years of his life. He loved dancing and was loved for his proud, sometimes loud and flamboyant energy and expression. He was proud of his Native American blood and spirituality, both native American and Catholic, flowed from this background. As an artist he stressed Native American themes in his work. His outgoing personality and devilish humor will be missed by all he touched throughout the years.

A Memorial Service is planned at the National AIDS Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park, Circle of Friends, on Saturday, NOvember 4, 2000 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be a Mass and healing Circle starting at noon, followed by a potluck picnic. For more details, or for alternate location if it is raining on the morning of the 4th, please call Alan Turpen (415) 431-7420 or Mario Torrigno (415) 587-1959. [1]
