Times Squares mourns the loss of Francis Coffin, who died peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday, September 14th. He had been in the Bronx VA Hospital for the past several months. When his nephew, Phll, caIIed to inform the club about his uncle, he relayed that they had often talked about square dancing and how much Frank enjoyed dancing with us. Thank you very much for the kind expression of sympathy. It is consoling to hear that my brother was well liked and that he had a good time during his many years as an ardent square dancer. He picked up his lifelong fondness for square dancing and high speed hiking in the beautiful township of Mount Washington in Massachusetts where we went for summer vacations during our childhood and teens. He kept up his active interest in physics and philosophy and in walking. But, thanks to you, the best fun of all was in dancing.
He missed you during his last illness, which began in December with a fall and fracture in December. And ran the gamut of complications and operations and periods of hallucinations and then clear thinking. His last words to my son on September 14 were about paying his bills, continuing his critical studies of Einstein, and attending a square dance next week in a nearby room in the Bronx VA Hospital. He died there, at age 84, peacefully asleep, on September 15. Keep up the good work!!
