Missing/Remembering Dave Mose

Dave Mose, age 51, passed away Tuesday, February 20th after having an unwanted growth in his brain for the last two years. He and his partner Barny Kates were together for 23 years and active within the square dance community in the mid 90s. They attended IAGSDC conventions in Chicago and San Francisco.

Patrick and I met them when they were taking Stan’s advanced class with the Times Squares. Dave, who some called “Chuck (Resnick)’s twin” due to their height similarity, dark hair and compactness, quickly moved up to take a C-1 class that I was instructing as well.

Dave and Barny moved up to C-3A with the Geocentrics before accepting temporary relocation for their jobs in London. I know that Patrick and I were not the only members of Times Squares who were able to stay with them and get a chance to see some of England as well.

Dave was a special man who kept himself physically fit and active with sports outside of the dance world. This included running, volleyball, skiing, and scuba diving to name a few. Highly competitive even with board games, he was extremely intelligent. He had a dry sense of humor, but could easily bring a smile to those around him.

Patrick and I, along with square dancers Robert Dawalt & his partner David Leachman, were with Barny on the evening of Dave’s death. Even though 3 of us 6 had stopped dancing, the bonds of friendship formed through this activity hold strong.

Dave is greatly missed.
