Obituary

Dan Westergard
April 17 1947 - Nov. 14, 1992
Dan died peacefully at home from AIDS. By his side were his lover of eight years, Paul Gfroerer, and their Boston Bull Terrier, Kerry. Dan was worn in Los Angeles but spent most of his childhood in San Lorenzo. He came over the Bay Bridge every chance he had. Soon he called San Francisco his home. Dan was a mainstay as a waiter in gay restaurants. He worked at the P.S. Badlands, Fannys and ended his career as manager of the Neon Chicken. Dan and Paul then started their design company, "One Room At A Time," working both in San Francisco and Marin.

Dan was an avid collector and enjoyed building with Paul their Barbie, Bear and Quilt collections. Dan was also a member of the Foggy City Squares Performance Team from 1983 to 1986. Along with Paul, he traveled to Gay Square Dance Conventions all over the United States.

Dan is survived by his dad, Dan Westergard Sr.; his mother, Virginia' sister Candi; her husband, Tom; and nephews Tommy and Willie; and his brother John; his children Danielle, Jonathen, Rachel and their mom Roxanne.

A Special "Thank You" to Dan's Family, Paul's Family, his "adopted" mom and dad, Jim and Virginia McElroy. All of his friends who stood by and gave their love.

To Dan's Medical Team, Dr. Jay Lalezari and Eileen Glutzner RN, and all the doctors and nurses of Mount Zion's Fifth floor. We "Thank You" for taking such good care of Dan. He was touched by all care and love he received.

A private service with his many families was held at his home on November 18 in San Francisco. Donations in his name should go to HIV Clinical Research, 2300 Sutter Street, Suite 202, San Francisco, CA 94115 or Open Hand of San Francisco.

Those who knew Dan, understand the loss. We all love and miss you!!![1]
