Obituary

NEW YORK CITY, NY - Services are scheduled for Gregory Alan Wicks, 30, of New York City, for Tuesday September 8, at Rainsville Funeral Home Chapel in Rainesville, Ala. Burial will be at Green Haven Memorial Gardens in Central, Ala.

He died Friday September 4, 1987, in New York City after a brief illness. He was a Protestant and a native of Shreveport and had formerly attended Life Tabernacle Church in Shreveport. After graduating from Byrd High School, he attended classes at Centenary College.

Mr. Wicks worked as a word processor operator for a New York law firm and had been a resident of New York for 8 years. He was actively involved in theater and music. He had previously performed at Marjorie Lyons Playhouse and other community theater groups in Shreveport. He currently was actively involved in volunteer work with underprivileged children in Harlem and more recently with the deaf, having completed the beginning courses in American Sign Language.

He is survived by his parents, John and Naomi Wicks of Shreveport; three brothers, DeWayne Wicks of Houston, Texas; Gary Wicks of Arlington, Texas and Dana Wicks of Shreveport; four nephews and several extended family members residing in and around Northeast Ala.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.[1]

Recollections

There will be a memorial service for one of our members, Christiaan Kelly, who passed away on September 4. The service will be held on October 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 773 Park Avenue (between 72nd and 73rd streets) at the home of Dina Schmidt. A social will follow.
