Remembrances

I commend you, my dear Billy to almighty God, and entrust you to your Creator.
May you rest in the arms of the Lord who formed you from the dust of the earth.
May holy Mary, the angels, and all the saints welcome you now that you have gone forth from this life.
May Christ who was crucified for you, bring you freedom and peace.
May Christ who died for you admit you into his garden of paradise.
May Christ, the true Shepherd, embrace you as one of his flock.
May he forgive all your sins and set you among those he has chosen.
May you see your Redeemer face to face and enjoy the vision of God, forever.

~Godspeed
— Jessica Vaughan, niece. 14 September 2020

It is with a heavy heart that I share with all of you the unfortunate passing of one of our Desert Valley Squares members, Bill Napier. Today, October 7, would have been his 60th Birthday, and his first birthday in the Great Beyond. He passed away on September 9th, 2020 in Ohio.

Bill was one of our square dance family members for many many years, and was greatly missed after his life-altering stroke in February 2019 that left him in need of 24 hour care. He was ALWAYS a friendly face, and helpful to new and old(er) dancers alike, and was an active participant at our weekly Sunday dance nights. Despite his own obligations of taking care of his partner Larry, who had several of his own health struggles, Bill made a point to show up every week to join us in the square and be among friends for a couple hours. He was a fairly quiet man, but he appreciated all of us.

Shortly after his stroke, Bill and his partner Larry were moved to a care center where they could share a room together, and Bill could get the full time care he required. Somewhat unexpectedly, Larry passed away a short time after that due to his health complications. Bill’s niece, Jessica Vaughan, who is a Registered Nurse, moved to Phoenix from Ohio, along with her husband and two children to be Bill’s full time care givers. They moved Bill back to his home in Central Phoenix, and Jessica and her family moved into Bill’s home with him. Jessica’s husband was a skilled carpenter, tradesman, handyman, and took the lead to clean up Bill’s house and property and prepare it to be sold. Over the next few months, they made a decision to transport Bill back to Ohio where all of his family lives, and so Jessica and her family could return to their lives and livelihoods and still take care of their Uncle Billy, who they obviously cared for and loved very deeply.

There isn’t much information on Bill’s Facebook page, but it is clear that his family in Ohio took great care of him and tried to make the best of everything they could. Bill passed away on September 9, 2020 in Ohio. May he rest in health and peace.
