Alberto Bastida was born on July 28, 1938 and passed away on July 10, 2019 in Cape Coral, Florida and is under the care of Coral Ridge Funeral Home & Cemetery.[1]

Alberto Bastida was born on July 28, 1938 in Camaguey, Cuba. His father was a prosperous businessman and land owner, though the family lost everything when the communists took over. Near the beginning of the Cuban revolution, his parents sent Alberto and his younger sister Anamaria to school in the United States. (They were never able to return to Cuba, but their mother was eventually able to emigrate to join them here.) Alberto became a licensed architect and also worked in the District of Columbia Office of Zoning. He bought a shell of a house on Capitol Hill and rebuilt it asthe neighborhood began gentrifying. He was a veteran world traveler.Alberto signed up for DC Lambda Squares’ Basic class in the fall of 1992 (the same class that also produced current DCLS members Cissy Meza, Elwin Aspergren and Steve Johnson). He danced with the club until 1997-1998. In 2007, Alberto moved to the Miami area after retiring. He passed away on July 10, 2019 in Cape Coral, FL at age 80, survived by his sister and her husband.
